KCBA MEMBERSHIP DUES

Regular Member Dues

$280
(membership expires 6/30/2027)

Individuals shall be eligible for regular membership while they reside OR maintain an office in King County and either (a) are licensed to practice law by the licensing authority of any state, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico, and are in good standing in the jurisdiction where they are licensed, or (b) are a full-time faculty member of a law school in the State of Washington.  Regular Members are eligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions.

 

Associate Member Dues

$180
(membership expires 6/30/2027)

Individuals who are eligible for Regular Membership, but live AND work outside of King County, shall be Associate Members.  Associate Members are ineligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions.

 

Government & Non-Profit Civil Legal Aid Member Dues

$140
(membership expires 6/30/2027)

Government Members are attorneys who are solely employed by a local, state, or federal government agency or civil legal aid nonprofit organization, who live OR work within King County.  Government & Non-Profit Legal Aid Members who are within King County are eligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions. 

 

Associate Government & Non-profit Civil Legal Aid Member Dues

$140

Associate Government Members are Attorneys who are solely employed by a local, state, or federal government agency or civil legal aid nonprofit organization, who live AND work outside of King County.  Associate Members are ineligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions.

 

Limited License Legal Technicians (LLLT)

$140
(membership expires 6/30/2027)

After several years of discussions, KCBA made the long-overdue determination that Limited License Legal Technicians (LLLTs) qualify for KCBA membership.  You must be licensed by the Washington Supreme Court to practice as a Limited License Legal Technician.  Limited License Legal Technicians who live OR work within King County are eligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions.

Alternative Dues Options

$110
(membership expires 6/30/2027)

Income based on individual tax return filed for the 2024 tax year. Income dues option information will be kept confidential.  Available to those whose income was less than $60,000.  Eligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions if you live OR work in King County.

New Admittee Dues

$50
(membership expires 6/30/2027)

Also includes 2 Free sections and a chapter of the Washington Lawyers Practice Manual.
Individuals for whom Washington is their first state of admittance after January 1, 2024.  These dues are only available for your first year of KCBA membership.  New Admittee Members are eligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions if you live OR work in King County.

Premier Member Dues

Premier members subsidize our Alternative Dues, New Admittees, Retired, and Student members.  Also, as a Premier Member, you’re guaranteed to enjoy a stellar year with KCBA.  Premier Membership includes:

  • Two (2) tickets each to the Dr. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon; the annual Breakfast With Champions; the KCBA Awards Reception; the New Lawyers Division Spring Soirée;
  • PLUS, a $400 credit to be used at any CLE or KCBA member event.

Eligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions if you live OR work in King County. 

 

Sustaining Member Dues

Sustaining membership subsidizes our Alternative Dues, New Admittees, Retired, and Student members.  To thank you for your support, you will receive:

  • $100 credit to be used at any CLE or KCBA member event.

Eligible to vote on KCBA referenda and hold KCBA Board positions if you live OR work in King County.

Retired Status

$60
(membership expires 6/30/2027)

If you are retired from active practice (Inactive, Disabled Inactive, Honorary, Pro Bono, or Voluntarily Resigned status with all state bar associations), you are eligible for retired status.

 

Students

FREE - also includes 2 Free sections
Student members must be students at a law school accredited by the American Bar Association or enrolled in the law clerk program established by Rule 6 of the Admission to Practice Rules adopted by the Washington State Supreme Court.

 

Dues Waiver

KCBA wants to support you in your career during times of financial difficulty, including when you are in between positions. No documentation is required.  If you cannot afford your KCBA dues, please contact KCBA Membership  to confidentially request a dues waiver at membership@kcba.org.

 

Section Dues

$40 each
(membership expires 6/30/2027)

Sections are an invaluable part of membership, focusing on specific fields of law. Often, they offer CLE lunches, listserv discussion forums, and networking opportunities.  CLICK HERE to review all the sections KCBA offers.
